"With a sound described as 'a
smoky blend of Melissa Etheridge and Bessie Smith', songwriter; Katy
Soljak combines 'blues- folk- jazz- poetry-truth', in a style that reflects
her life as a woman in the world with songs that strike a chord with new and
old Bohemiens. Katy returned from a 10 year musical stint in Los Angeles working with musicians like Steven Hodges (Tom Waits) and Paul Barrere from Little Feat. She sang back ups for Jack Brewer Band (Saccharine Trust SST) and recorded on Harsh World SST. Her own band KATY SOLJAK regularly played the clubs on Sunset Boulevard, art galleries and Jackpot Citys in in Los Angeles and Long Beach, Californina. Katy Soljak has recorded two albums since her return, released on her own label GALA records. |

One of Waiheke's hottest Blues bands available for your entertainment featuring NZ's leading Female Blues vocalist KATY SOLJAK. The Katy Soljak Band has been touring NZ recently promoting Morning Rain with capital Festivals and were featured on 'The Good Morning Show' on TVNZ. They played the Paihia and Mission Bay Jazz Blues Festival and are booked at the Whangamata Jazz Festival November 2008. Katy will be playing at the Trade Winds in St Augustine, Florida in July '08 and regularly performs in Los Angeles. The band performs up to 3 hourly sets of blues covers and originals. The Katy Soljak Band has it's own JBL Sound System providing excellent sound for indoors or outdoors. |
